Join DANG for our Inaugural Distinguished Lecture with Daniel Miller.

Daniel Miller is a professor of anthropology at University College London where he played a crucial role in establishing their new MSc programme in Digital Anthropology.

He has written/edited 37 books. He directs a European Research Council project Why We Post investigating the use and consequences of social media. The project launched in February 2016. The project is based on a team of 9 anthropologists who each conducted 15 months ethnographic research. So far, the project has produced eleven free books to be published by UCL press. A free UCL university course on FutureLearn and the Why We Post website with over 100 films. The course and website will be in eight languages.

This talk provides substantive results from those nine simultaneous 15 month ethnographic explorations on the use and consequences of social media around the world. The impact on fields ranging from politics to intimacy and communication, new theories and definitions. The focus is on content and cultural differentiation rather than platforms and affordances.
